De-Matting Policy
Dematting Policy – Signature Canines
We understand that even a well-cared-for coat can occasionally develop small knots. However, where more significant matting is present, an additional charge will apply.
At Signature Canines, we will always attempt to de-matt a coat only where we are confident it can be done safely and without causing the dog any pain or distress.
All grooming services at Signature Canines fully comply with—and aim to exceed—the standards set out in the Animal Welfare Act 2006, which makes it an offence to cause unnecessary pain or discomfort to animals. We reserve the right to refuse any procedure that we believe may compromise your pet’s welfare. You can be assured that your dog’s wellbeing will always be our top priority.
In cases where a dog is presented in a severely matted condition, our primary concern will be the animal’s welfare. In such situations, our policy is to clip or shave the coat using electric clippers with a close blade. We regard this as the most humane and stress-free option, and it will be discussed with you during your consultation.
We will never attempt to de-matt elderly, infirm, or aggressive dogs, as this may cause unnecessary stress or risk. We appreciate your understanding.

If you would like advice on maintaining your dog’s coat between grooming appointments, we are always happy to help and can recommend a tailored care routine suited to your dog’s needs.
Prevention is always better than cure. We encourage regular grooming appointments to prevent matting and ensure your dog remains comfortable, healthy, and well cared for.
Please note: Our standard grooming prices do not include de-matting. Where de-matting is attempted, an additional charge of up to £10 per 15 minutes of extra grooming time will apply.
